A Slow Sunday in Mission Bay, Hidden Gems, and Getting Ready for Family Time
Some Sundays feel packed from start to finish, but in the best way. This was one of those days where I somehow fit in time with friends, sunshine, good food, a little reading, and even crossed a few things off my to-do list before getting ready for the week ahead.
Morning at Super Bloom Cafe
Sunday started out as a pretty amazing day.
I met up with a friend at Super Bloom Cafe in Mission Bay, and if you haven't been there, it's gorgeous. It overlooks the water, has a really peaceful vibe, and somehow there's always plenty of parking. In San Diego, that alone feels like a small miracle.
I ordered a coconut matcha, which was surprisingly delicious, and then we took a walk around Mission Bay.
It was one of those warm San Diego days where everyone seemed to be outside enjoying the sunshine. There were plenty of people around, but it never felt overcrowded. Mission Bay always seems a little calmer than the beach, and I think that's part of why I love it so much.
One of My Favorite Hidden Gems in San Diego
After our walk, my friend stayed to watch some soccer games, and I headed over to Paradise Point.
I always tell people it's one of my favorite hidden gems in San Diego. Since the resort sits on city-leased land, there's plenty of free parking, and there's a small cove that's usually protected from the wind. It's become one of my favorite places to spend a quiet afternoon.
I also got to try out my new beach chair that I ordered from Amazon.
It's a backpack chair that unfolds into a lounger and even has its own shade. It was lightweight, easy to carry, and took almost no time to set up. Definitely one of those purchases that immediately feels worth it.
The only downside? I still managed to get a little sunburned.
I spent about 2 hours relaxing by the water while listening to Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza. I've been slowly making my way through it, and I'm really enjoying it so far.
Acai Bowls, Sea Moss, and Electrolytes
By the afternoon, I was getting pretty hungry, so I stopped at Crown Point Coffee.
I ordered an acai bowl and noticed they had these new sea moss drinks. I still had a lingering headache, which I think was a combination of too much sun, not enough water, and a little too much confidence in my sunscreen.
The drink was packed with electrolytes, and, it hit the spot.
I tried a few different flavors, including ginger and strawberry, and they were all really good. I'll be picking those up again if I see them in stores.
Dinner at Liberty Station
After relaxing at home for a little while, I met another friend at Liberty Station for dinner.
We ate at Officine Buona Forchetta, and it was my first time there.
We split a pesto pizza topped with pine nuts and ordered their focaccia bread, which was easily one of my favorite parts of the meal. If you're looking for a good Italian restaurant in Liberty Station with plenty of parking, I'd recommend checking it out.
Giving Back Before the Week Begins
When I got home, I spent some time cleaning my apartment and sorting through things I no longer needed.
I put together a donation pile for Sharia's Closet, a local nonprofit that provides clothing to people in need throughout San Diego.
I know the owner personally, and I really admire the mission behind the organization. It feels good knowing the clothes will go directly to people who can actually use them.
If you're looking for somewhere to donate clothing locally, I'd absolutely recommend supporting them.
Looking Ahead
I wrapped up the evening talking with my mom before heading to bed.
Tomorrow is shaping up to be another busy day. My family is arriving in San Diego, and I'll also be leading my Yoga Nidra and Sound Bath at Vibrant Life Yoga in Sorrento Valley.
I'm looking forward to both.
Sometimes the best weekends aren't about doing anything extraordinary. They're just about slowing down, spending time with people you enjoy, finding little pockets of peace around the city, and appreciating where you live.
