Sound Found Me: My Journey Into Healing, Purpose, and Calling
There are moments in life when everything quietly (or not so quietly) falls apart… and somehow, that’s exactly what leads you to where you’re meant to be.
For me, sound healing wasn’t something I casually discovered.
It found me….. LOUD, undeniable, and impossible to ignore.
The Breaking Point That Became a Beginning
The end of 2024 stirred something deep within me. I could feel it, this knowing that my life was meant for something bigger. But clarity didn’t come with that feeling… just uncertainty.
I felt lost.
Then, at the beginning of 2025, everything shifted. I went through a breakup that stopped me in my tracks. It forced me to pause, reflect, and reevaluate everything….. my health, my habits, my direction, and ultimately, my life.
That season changed me. It pushed me into sobriety. It pushed me inward. And it created space for something new to enter.
The Sound Bath That Changed Everything
(Even Though It Was… a Mess)
A friend told me about a sound bath at the Balboa Park Botanical Garden. Something in me immediately said…. GO!
So I did.
And honestly? It was far from perfect.
It was outside, and the waterfall was so loud I could barely hear the singing bowls. In the middle of the session, a stork swooped down and ate a koi fish right in front of us. Someone screamed. The energy was chaotic. The instructor, clearly shaken from witnessing a bad car accident on the way there, began trauma dumping during the session.
It was… a lot.
By most standards, it was not a “good” sound bath.
But shifted for me that day.
Even in the chaos, even in the imperfection, something inside me lit up. A quiet but powerful voice said…
“This is it. You have to do this.”
And I couldn’t shake it.
Answering the Call (Without Knowing How)
At that point, I knew nothing about sound healing. No background, no training, just a feeling I couldn’t ignore.
So I did what I always do when something matters to me…
I committed to learning it the right way.
Being trauma-informed has always been important in my work and in how I show up for others. I knew if I was going to pursue this, I needed to do it with integrity, care, and intention.
I started researching certification programs. I explored, I questioned, I stayed curious.
And then I found it.
The Moment It Became Real
I enrolled in a sound healing certification at The Sound Space with Kinsey at Sojourn in South Park, and from that moment on, I was all in.
I say I’ve been “booked ever since,” but it’s deeper than that.
It wasn’t just about building something.
It was about becoming something.
Purpose Expands Through Service
At the same time, I was feeling the weight of everything happening around us, especially toward the end of 2024. After the election, I had a lot of emotions. I could see shifts coming. I knew that many families and communities would begin losing access to critical services and support.
And I couldn’t ignore that either.
I knew I wanted to be part of the solution.
That’s when I found the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching program at Mesa Community College, a path that would allow me to support others in a more structured, evidence-based way.
It felt aligned. It felt necessary.
I didn’t want wellness to be a luxury.
I wanted it to be accessible.
Building a Foundation of Healing Modalities
Since then, everything has continued to unfold in the most aligned way:
I became a Certified Yoga Nidra Facilitator
I became a Reiki Level II Practitioner
I began diving deeper into sound healing research and application
Each step building on the last. Each layer expanding my ability to hold space for others.
But one area, in particular, has become incredibly personal.
Where It Becomes a Mission
I am currently working on a review paper exploring how sound frequency can support neurodivergent individuals, especially those on the autism spectrum.
This isn’t just research for me.
It’s personal.
I have two nonverbal 5-year-old twin nephews who are on the spectrum. Watching their world, and the challenges they and their caregivers navigate, has shaped me in ways I can’t fully put into words.
And now, it’s shaping my purpose.
If there is a way to use sound to help regulate their nervous systems…
To help them feel safer in their bodies…
To create even small moments of ease…
Then I know this is part of why I’m here.
Not just for them, but for other families, teachers, and communities navigating similar journeys.
Looking Back… and Forward
When I think back to that chaotic sound bath in the botanical garden, it makes me laugh.
Because by all logical standards, it should have turned me away.
But instead, it awakened something.
That’s how I know this path is real.
It wasn’t perfect conditions that brought me here.
It was something deeper.
A calling.
And once I heard it, I had no choice but to follow.
An Invitation
If you’re in a season of change…
If you feel lost but know something more is waiting…
If something keeps calling you, even if it doesn’t make sense yet…
Listen.
You don’t need all the answers to begin.
Sometimes the path finds you first.
What’s something in your life that’s been quietly calling you?
